Getaways

A must see!

The South-Gironde is a region with a variety of landscapes and many cultural references. Here is a list of our favorite places and activities! Links to websites will help you organize your leisure activities before coming. On site, we have all the documentation at your disposal.

1- Nature activities

Canoeing on the Ciron

In Bernos-Beaulac, 10mn from the house, a nautical club proposes the rent of canoes for variable durations according to your will and your courage. The ballad is pleasant and exotic! The link to their website: https://www.cckbb.fr

The accrobranche

The accrobranche is for children and adults from 2 years old.

Aventures Sud Gironde in Bazas offers these activities (between April and October), supervised by professionals, in a secure environment. The site also offers Bubblefoot, lasergame and paintball! Here is the link to their website: https://aventures-sudgironde.fr

Nature tours

The parc naturel des Landes de GascogneLandes de Gascogne in Captieux and extends to the sea. It is made up of cultivated pine forests, but also of wetlands, of protected places on the edge of rivers like the Eyre.  In this infinite richness, the natural park and independent naturalists offer discovery activities throughout the territory and events all year round to discover this rich and serene nature.

Jerome Bayert, a passionate naturalist, will help you discover the richness of nature throughout the year: https://www.regardsnature.fr/sorties-nature

Swimming

The river : Nothing better in summer than to soak your feet in the Ciron : it’s a nice protected river, which meanders between the trees, in the shade, and so the ground is … of sand !  We know some nice and uncrowded places that we will show you on the spot.

The lake of hostens:  At 40mn from here, a huge lake with beach and supervised swimming for the pleasure of all. Dogs are not allowed on this side but there is another lake just next door, huge, not very crowded, where swimming is allowed for dogs but not for humans.

The ocean beaches: They are 1h30 drive from the house. Not very close, but the excursion is feasible on the day, in direction of Mimizan, Biscarosse, and even Arcachon!

There are a lot of beaches allowed to dogs.

2- Heritage outings

Bazas La belle

Bazas has 4500 inhabitants today, but it was an important city since the Middle Ages; it has a very pretty old town dominated by its 13th century cathedral. You can visit it alone, of course, but the guided tours organized by the tourist office are pleasant and exciting.

The little extra for children: Terraventura offers a very educational treasure hunt to discover Bazas and its customs. You just have to download the free application : Terraventura

Les châteaux Clémentins

The castles of Cazeneuve (Préchac), Roquetaillade (Mazères) and Villandraut (Villandraut!) are jewels of medieval architecture (built in the 14th century), variously preserved, all very interesting to visit. All the information is available on the incontrovertible site of l’office de Tourisme.

Le Gemmage

Gemmage is an ancient practice which consists in taking the sap from pine trees to extract turpentine. An association made up of former gemmakers offers to help you relive this profession during pleasant strolls along the ciron, in Bernos Beaulac.

La collégiale d’Uzeste

Very beautiful collegiate church of Gothic style, dating from the XIVth century. Interpretation of the heritage outside. Erected as a collegiate church by the pope in 1312, this former Romanesque sanctuary is today the burial place of Bertrand de Got, elected pope under the name of Clement V. It is built in the style of the great Gothic buildings of the time.

The Ecomuseum of Marqueze

In Sabres (30 mn from the house), you take a small train which leads you in a place out of time, where are arranged the buildings and traditional places of the Landes.  Conferences and demonstrations explain the trades of yesteryear. The ride is very pleasant. Dogs are allowed outside and there is even a small river to cool off. To know more about it: https://www.marqueze.fr

3- Sweetness of life

Bike rides

In addition to the many small and very picturesque roads, you will find in Captieux, a green way which will lead you to Mios, via Bazas, without danger.

Markets

The Bazas market on Saturday mornings takes place in the beautiful cathedral square – a great time.
But there are also: Captieux on Monday, Villandraut on Thursday and Langon on Friday on the banks of the Garonne.

The vineyard

The vineyards begin about 20 km north of Captieux; 2 estates are nearby: Grâves and Sauterne. Many chateaux offer visits and tastings. The site linked below indicates which chateaux offer visits according to the dates. http://www.bordeaux-graves-sauternes.com/

Gastronomy - the fattened oxen

Bazas is the cradle of a breed of meat cows: La Bazadaise.
Every year at the end of February, the oxen are presented in parade in the towns of Bazas and Captieux.  But even outside this period, the beef of Bazas can be tasted in the good restaurants of the region. We put at your disposal a list of restaurants with our small favorites.
